Proform Pro 9000 Review: The Perfect Harmony of Tech & Exercise?

Have you ever tried to knock out a serious run on a cheap treadmill? It’s very unfulfilling. Not only is it unnatural – cheap treadmills don’t feel like real ground – but it’s also boring. You’re staring in one spot for the entire run, and most of the time, considering treadmills are used indoors, that “spot” is a blank space on the wall.

Yawn.

The Proform Pro 9000 is an entertaining treadmill – because of its media capabilities, it’s a treadmill that you can run on for hours (if you’re at that point) and not get bored. And because it’s an upscale Proform offering, you’re getting one of the best Proform treadmills in terms of running quality, too.

This is our Proform Pro 9000 review – we’ll go over everything, including specifications, features, existing customer reviews, and more. If you’re considering making the purchase but you’re trying to decide whether or not the Pro 9000 is right for you, this page will help you make your final decision. Read on!

Proform Pro 9000 Spec & Feature Summary

If you’d like a beautiful, detailed explanation of the features, head over to the official product page and scroll through the page. If you want a more concise explanation, look below.

One of the best motors money can buy. You can push the 9000 to its absolute limits and the motor won’t overheat (resulting in a broken treadmill). The motor is about 25% more powerful than any other non-Proform motor on the market today, too, and as icing on the cake, the motor is extremely quiet, even when used at top speeds and factoring in incline/decline.

A 10” Touchscreen. The touchscreen is what separates the 9000 from the crowd. Music and movies can be watched in their regular resolutions, which you won’t have to strain at a blurry screen like you would if the screen were 8” or smaller. The touchscreen can even play YouTube videos and pull up full websites for you to browse – it’s called a “smart screen”, meaning it works in a very similar fashion to any other web-enabled device like a laptop or mobile phone.

Workout apps and other customization options. There are 38 customized workouts for you to peruse right out of the box. Also, if you’re more experienced and you already know what you want to do, you can program your own workout, too. This means won’t have to waste time with initial setup configuration or mess up your concentration with minor adjustments throughout the run.

Incline difficulty and speed adjustments. A 15% incline means you can increase the difficulty of your run by quite a bit – it’s nothing like a 45% incline, but something like that just isn’t possible on a treadmill. 15% incline and 3% decline are what treadmills can currently “max out” at, and lo and behold, the Proform Pro 9000 has both of those features.

Ample and comfortable running surface. Form is important. Even if you don’t realize it’s happening, low-quality treadmills with small running surfaces and tight restrictions in the frame will make you compromise on form, leading to early fatigue and possibly even injury. With the Proform Pro 9000’s 22” x 60” running surface, that lack of space isn’t a problem, and because of the comfortable ProShox™ material (patented) used on the surface, you can run for longer without feeling the effect on your legs.

Non-standard features, like cooling fans and iFit. The fans will cool you off as you run – that’s always a nice feature to have, especially if you’re running in a hot room in the winter. iFit can create custom workout patterns based on Google Maps terrain, and the touchscreen can even display a mockup “landscape” displaying where you’re running so you can see where the next inclines/declines will be and adjust accordingly. (Click bellow to view all of the other non-standard features – there are far too many to list on this page.)

What types of runners use the Proform Pro 9000?

Because of the “treadmill part”, any serious runner

The motor, running surface, construction, and really just every part of the Proform Pro 9000 is made of the best materials that money can buy. This is a treadmill that feels exactly like real ground – or even better. You won’t get injured, and you won’t have to cut your runs short because something just doesn’t feel “right”.

If you’re someone who clocks dozens of miles per week, you’ll want to be running on something like the 9000.

“Lazy” runners who like to “zone out”

The touchscreen is big enough to where you can treat it like a normal TV – just stare and let time go by. The difference, of course, is that you’ll be getting healthier while you watch the TV on your 9000.

Obviously, the experience won’t be like if you went to an IMAX theater, but all things considered, the 9000 is one of the best media-enabled treadmills that money can buy. Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and even other third-party websites that stream TV and movies are all on the table, and the 10” screen makes viewing actually enjoyable.

Busy people who need to squeeze workouts in without missing a beat

You might be able to get by with a less-expensive treadmill if you wanted a screen to just watch movies on. You could even mount one on the wall behind you. But the 9000’s touchscreen does everything – you can check email and even perform actual work while running on the 9000.

Of course, you won’t be able to check emails while you’re doing a full sprint – but for the casual walker or jogger, multitasking while exercising is now entirely possible.

Now, there’s no excuse for you to miss your run, even if you’re swamped with work! :-)

In case you’re wondering: yes, existing customers love it

If you look around the web at independent reviews, you’ll see the exact same sentiments on the Proform Pro 9000 time and time again.

  • The treadmill is amazing to run on
  • The touchscreen is powerful, bright, fast, and just as comprehensive as Proform promises on the official page
  • The treadmill is a bit pricey ($1,799)

Because of the price, the overall review is usually 4 or 4.5 stars, but the treadmill itself is always a beaming 5/5 – no ifs, ands or buts.

Of course, a $1,799 purchase isn’t a small deal – you can also click here for the official product description of the Proform Pro 9000 (includes a few things we didn’t cover here), or you can click here to read about the Proform Pro 2000, which is the exact same thing as the 9000, just without the media enablement. (The 2000 actually sells at much higher rate than the 9000 does, so it’s definitely worth a look.)
